[One for all] I Can't Believe a Year Went By So Fast

Nikola is bored, a fact he finds patently unfair as it's his birthday, and for once he's not holed up in an abandoned manor somewhere with no one but unintelligent, undead minions for company.

He thinks there should be cake, at the very least, so he's wandered down to the kitchen in an attempt to either scrounge some up or make one himself.

Probably someone should intervene before the Big Guy finds him snooping around the kitchen.

You know, for that matter, if you could come up with a way to free the US of its reliance on OPEC, I'll be happy to write my congressman about getting the constitution amended so you can run for president..."

Nikola looks slightly offended. "I would never have done such a thing. If anything, I'd have sold the plans to both sides in the hopes they would share."

You know, like he did in WWII. Or like he told Helen he did. Motives get lost in the mists of time so easily...

"Funny thing; except for occasionally exchanging bullets, opposite sides seldom share much of anything," Will chuckles, checking the cakes again. "Almost ready, Nikola. We'll have your first slice of comfort-food in front of you in no time."

"Oh, this isn't comfort food, William. It's an indulgence."

"Well, then, we'll have you indulging in no time, then."

"Not my favorite indulgence, of course," Nikola adds. "But I suppose it's a start."

Will grins and grabs the bowl from the freezer and the cream from the fridge. "Better than nothing. Chocolate still does some very lovely things to a person's brain chemistry..."

"Yet another of those things virgins say," Nikola says dryly. "I'm really starting to wonder about you, William."

Will just shakes his head and adds powdered sugar to the cream.

"I suppose it's not unthinkable that you managed to reach your age a virgin," Nikola continues, mostly because Will hasn't stopped him. "Highly improbable these days, of course, but stranger things have happened.

"On the other hand, it isn't as if you're unattractive or entirely unintelligent, but I suppose you could secret yourself away from people often enough that it never even happened by chance..."

"I'm not discussing these things with a guy I just met." Will passes Tesla a spoon with whipped cream on it. "Sweet enough for you or should I add more sugar."

"I'd hardly say we 'just met,' William," Nikola says, accepting the spoon. "All things considered, we've already been quite intimate."

He tastes the cream slowly, licking it off the spoon. "No more sugar," he decides. "But add a splash of the Kirsch."

"What we did isn't exactly the same thing as intimacy," Will points out, adding a splash of cherry brandy and stirring faster.

"It wasn't sexual," Nikola admits. "But it was intimate. There was trust involved, more so than in most sexual relationships.

"And you were the one talking about blood bonds and all that," he reminds Will.

"My bad. I thought you were talking about the physical aspect of what we did. You're right. There's trust and there's a bond." He hands Tesla another spoonful of cream. "There have been maybe ten people. More Kirsch or is that good?"

"Ten?" Nikola asks, shocked. "At your age?" He tuts as he tastes the cream. "I'm disappointed.

"This is fine," he adds, once he's finished the cream.

"Not all of us have the Source Blood to help. When I was in school, studying was more important and, afterward, I was kind of looking to settle down." He shrugs, gets the cream where he wants it, and pulls down a plate to assemble the cake on.

"Still," Nikola says. "Even one girl a year should have put you over ten. How old were you your first time?"

Will considers, then smiles. "Seventeen, sophomore year of college. Moonbeam Starke. Also marked the first time I ever drank anything out of a human skull and the first time I left the United States."

"Seventeen?" Nikola asks, obviously impressed. "I half expected you to say twenty-five or so."

He smiles as well. "I was with a girl called Moonbeam once. Of course, it was the sixties, and we were in San Francisco, and I'm fairly certain it wasn't her real name."

"Nope, my Moonbeam's parents actually willingly saddled the poor woman with that name. For some reason, she never did change it."

He pulls out his wallet and displays a business-card: Moonbeam Starke, CPA.

"Woman's a trip. We met at a Student Leadership retreat, she organized mass skinny dipping, and that was back when I still drank seriously, so..."

"Now there's a sight I'd like to have seen," Nikola says, leering.

"It was... interesting. Especially since Moonbeam may have omitted to inform the Student Baptist Council that the Gay-Straight Alliance was going to be participating as well," he laughs, putting his wallet away. "But if you ever need to organize a tax shelter on the fly, Moonbeam's the woman for the job."

(ooc: Moonbeam may or may not be a Mary Sue for one of the two players whose characters are involved in this discussion *smirk*)

"In the retreat or the skinny dipping? I wouldn't think the Student Baptist Council would have willing the participated in the latter either way."

"Moonbeam was a persuasive woman. We actually had a member of their Fundraising Committee and, I think their secretary? Baptist or not, when you're a guy under twenty and it involves a chance to see a bunch of Sorority Sisters naked. Granted, neither actually crossed the finish-line but they showed up and it was hysterical how fast their clothes started going back on when they realized who else was there."

He laughs, adding cherries and whipped cream to the first layer of cake before adding the next. "Those were good years. I actually didn't start behaving like a reasonable and rational adult until I was about 20, so being an undergrad was fun."
