OFA: In the library

Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

"You're a smart boy."

She smiles a little softer when he climbs in, brushing one fingertip over his cheek. "Who knows what mood we'll both be in by the time the night's over..."

He smirks over at her as he starts the car. "I have a pretty good idea what sort of mood I'll be in."

There's no sound of an engine turning over as he turns the key, no rumble of an engine, just a soft click.

"Mmm. I bet you do," she murmurs, with a curious headtilt at the click.

"Did you build this?"

"Sadly, no, but it was...built in my honor, I suppose you could say."

As he pulls out of the drive, noises that are not readily apparent in most car rides can be heard without the white noise of the engine to drown them out.

"Hm," she makes a little surprised sound, listening to the noises she rarely heard except when walking. "Wow. It's so quiet..."

There are some noises she wouldn't hear while walking as well. Ticking in the engine, gears turning, things like that.

"Clean too. Entirely electric."

At that revelation, and the gentle tick every so often--like an entrapment on a gear--she smiles, amazed. They have nothing like this in her world.

"That is so cool," she murmurs, leaning forward as much as she's able to better hear it.

Nikola grins as he speeds down the street. "Isn't it just?"

She laughs, leaning back and watching the street fly past. "Oh, yeah."

It's easy to be amazed around Nikola, really.

"The only downside, really, is not having that satisfying roar when you accelerate."

Raya chuckles. "It does lack that, but all things considered that's not much," she says.

It's warm, and that air still in the car, so she shrugs out of the coat easily; the clothes she's wearing are indeed...interesting, as she fastens the rosette choker around her throat.

"No, and I could always rig some sort of sound effect to make up for it."

He gets a bit...distracted by the sudden expanse of skin next to him, and the car swerves a little. A few seconds later, there are red and blue flashing lights in the rearview mirror.

"Fuck."

She has to resist laughing; honestly, she has never made a guy do that before, and she has, though not strictly with the same intent, shown a lot more skin.

"Distracted?"

"Well, if you're going to strip down in front of me, you've got to expect some consequences."

He considers, briefly, trying to outrun the police car, but in the end, he just pulls over to the side of the road and shuts off the engine.

"All I did was take off my coat," she says, amused. "The rest is your imagination."

She twists to look back at the flashing lights, having to blink several times to clear the residual shadows. "But for the record I don't mind a wild ride," she murmurs.

Nikola smiles over at her. "I'll keep that in mind. Hand me the folder from the glove compartment, would you?"

He'll need to find a registration that matches his license.

She hands him the folder without argument, because that would do nothing but waste time. "I'd've thought you'd assume that the first time we slept together..."

"I had an idea," he says, smirking at her. He finds the registration and rolls down his window, smiling up at the officer approaching and all but beaming as he recognizes the man.

"Well," he drawls, "fancy seeing you here."

This, Raya thinks, she has to see. She hasn't had the opportunity to watch Nikola flirt with anyone else, and it might be illuminating.

She chooses not to speak, and just watches the policeman quietly, having pulled the shoulders of her coat halfway back up, leaving it unbuttoned down the front as she crosses her knees.

The officer, for his part, looks vaguely surprised to see Nikola.

"Nick? You...never called."

Nikola smiles apologetically. "I know. I'm terribly sorry. I've been busy. How's this Friday work for you, though?"

He takes it as a good sign that the officer hasn't yet asked for his license.

Nick? Raya doesn't look so much confused at the alias so much as the vague thought that it doesn't really suit him flicks over her features, as she watches and listens.

And actually does plan to ask about why this particular man was interesting. She blinks a little at the very well-played apologetic smile, and wonders vaguely how good an actor Nikola can really be. Maybe she'll find out later.

The officer seems at first unwilling to forgive Nikola, but there is prodigious flirting and apologizing, and eventually he agrees.

After even more flirting, the officer leaves with a promise of dinner on Friday, and somewhere in the middle of it, he seems to have forgotten to write them a ticket or even run Nikola's license.

"Nice," she says, amused and impressed. "Friend of yours, or do you hit on everybody that way?"

It's a rhetorical question, really; she already assumes he does.

"We met a few weeks ago at the police station," Nikola says. "He really wanted to feel me up."

Mostly because Nikola made the metal detector go haywire, but he's going to leave out that little detail.

She only laughs. "I'm going to resist the urge to ask why you were there in the first place, and what you did to make him really want to do that," Raya murmurs.

Though she does look sideways at Nikola with a smirk. "I can only imagine what part of you he wanted to feel up that badly."
