(ooc: hey, so sorry i haven't replied for a while. RL's been hectic, plus Owen's been going through a bit of a bad time with Will. I'd still like to play on this thread, though, if it's okay with you?)

Owen gives him an innocent grin. "Why ever not?"

There's something else he's been considering ever since Will mentioned it. He just has to ask - it can't do any harm, can it? But he's Nikola Tesla... oh, stop it. Owen tries to pull himself together. No harm in asking.

"Nikola..." Get on with it. "Mate, you know how I'm undead? It must be some kind of energy, and they said you've got a way with that kind of thing...?"

Nikola chuckles. "I do have something of a gift, yes."

Owen presses on. "They said the energy could last for thirty years - or thirty seconds..."

"The energy sustaining you, you mean?" Nikola asks. "Well, I'd have to have a better idea of what that energy is before I could help you."

Owen sighs, not sadly, just thinking. At least Tesla hasn't laughed in his face yet.

"That's the thing, really. We couldn't find out a lot about whatever it is except it's dissipating - and nothing much seems to affect it." He grins at Nikola. "I stuck my hand in a fuse box once, and it tickled... but that was it."

"I know the feeling," Nikola says dryly.

"I suppose we can run a few tests, see what we're up against. I can't promise you anything, but it should be an interesting run whatever happens."

Owen is nothing like the undead he usually works with.

"Might not be as interesting as the autopsy, but probably more useful in the long run," Owen agrees.

"What kind of tests? Bet you've got some... different equipment here, you being, well, Nikola Tesla and all that..."

"Most of my personal equipment is not actually here, but Helen does tend to keep her labs equipped with the most cutting edge devices. I'm sure she has something that would at least be useful. I think our best bet would be to see if we can't separate some of the energy from you to study on its own."

"Well, if we could... it's just weird, knowing that you could go at any minute," Owen says slowly. "I mean, it's not frightening - obviously, we all could - "

But he knows where he's going, so actually it is frightening. Very much so.

"How do you know I'm worth anything?" Owen mutters. "Course I want to stick around. Even if I'm not," he adds doubtfully.

"I don't," Nikola says mildly, "but I also don't know that you're not worth anything. Whereas, if you didn't even want to live, I'd know for certain that you weren't."

Owen decides not to mention his jump into Cardiff Bay.

"I know that. There's always something, some spark of hope. And while that sounds all well and good talking a suicide off a rooftop - " - he sighs - " - harder to find that something for yourself, innit, mate?"

He shoves his hands in his pockets. "S'pose that's why I want to live. Want to know if I'm worth anything. So!" He gazes over Nikola's shoulder at his project, avoiding his eye. "Those tests?"

"I'll have to see what sort of equipment Helen has before we can actually get started. I'll let you know if I come up with anything useful." Or at the very least, anything he can modify without incurring Helen's wrath.
