Nikola is bored, a fact he finds patently unfair as it's his birthday, and for once he's not holed up in an abandoned manor somewhere with no one but unintelligent, undead minions for company.

He thinks there should be cake, at the very least, so he's wandered down to the kitchen in an attempt to either scrounge some up or make one himself.

Probably someone should intervene before the Big Guy finds him snooping around the kitchen.

Nikola's smirk deepens for a moment, and then turns to a frown. "Please tell me you didn't find a recipe that doesn't call for Kirsch."

Will forces himself to relax. "I may be a cretin, but I'm not that bad."

"You didn't even know what the cake was called," Nikola reminds him. "It has less to do with being a cretin than an ignoramus."

Will sighs. "Okay, Nikola. You're right. I'm an idiot. In fact, I'm pretty sure we established that some time ago. No arguments here," he mutters, tasting the cherries.

Nikola shrugs. "No one's forcing you to put up with me, you know. It's entirely your choice."

"You're right. It is. Sorry. I just need to make more of an effort." He offers Tesla the spoon. "The cherries taste okay to you? I didn't want them to be too sweet since sour's kind of the point, but I can add more sugar if you want."

Nikola leans forward and takes the spoon between his lips. "Mmm...I like it rather sour."

"Yeah, me too. Better contrast to the chocolate that way. You don't like your whipped cream too sweet, do you? Too much sugar and you can't really taste the cream."

"Not too sweet, no," Nikola murmurs. "I don't like most things too sweet."

"Good. Sounds like we're on the same page as to how the finished product should taste," Will answers, taking the cherries off the flame.

"Quite the miracle," Nikola says dryly.

"Few and far between," Will agrees, using a toothpick to test the cake. "Mom used to have this saying about blind pigs finding truffles..."

"A broken clock is right twice a day," Nikola says.

"There you go." Will nods, taking the cakes out of the oven and wondering why this conversation suddenly has him thinking. "Okay, we'll just let those cool, then I'll make the whipped cream and knock this thing together."

He walks over to the table and helps himself to more caramel-corn. "You sure you don't want some? Ashley and Henry both really enjoyed it."

"Positive," Nikola says. "I've lived quite long enough to know what I do and don't enjoy."

"Suit yourself," Will answers, helping himself to a handful and then going in search of a piping-bag.

"I always do," Nikola murmurs, leaning on the counter to watch Will.

"Very true," he admits, testing the temperature of the cakes. "They still need to cool," he tells Tesla, giving the cherries a stir. "So, any new world-changing inventions on the radar for you?"

"Watson wants me to redesign his suit," Nikola says, tapping his fingers on the counter.

"Yeah, he looked like he was having some trouble with the current one when I saw him earlier." Will frowns, then smiles. "Henry's been talking about Iron Man a lot, so I look forward to seeing the new design..."

Nikola smiles. "Mmm...yes, well if we give him something a little easier to maneuver, maybe you can finally convince him to fuck you. Check him off your top ten list."
