Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

Nikola continues playing, seemingly oblivious to her presence. He never reaches perfection, but he does get better as he goes on.

"So, did you ever hear Debussy play it in person?"

Nikola glances up from the piano, regarding her somewhat coolly. "Once. In 1912. In Paris."

She crosses her arms.

"What are you doing here? Other than playing the piano."

She quickly amends before he can make a smartass comment. He was out for blood in Rome. thinks he looks like the lovechild of Eric Mabius and Seth Green.

"At the moment? Nothing." He keeps playing, fiddling his way through the difficult bits.

"So one minute you're all up with Vampires and wanting to make mom queen of the damned or something, and now you're just doing nothing?"

"The Cabal is by far the most pressing issue at the moment. Your mother understands. Is that not enough for you?" His tone of voice indicates she should let the grownups do the real thinking.

Ashley rolls her eyes. "Actually, no. Mom doesn't always have her head on straight when it comes to her friends from the old days."

"Your mother may occasionally make poor decisions, but she has her reasons for keeping me here."

Ashley would really like to bash Tesla's face into the keys, but she doesn't want to hurt the piano.

"So what's with you and Will?"

It wouldn't do any good, anyway. He'd only heal.

Ashley rolls her eyes. He's going to play it that way. Fine.

"How long did it take you to heal having a hand stuck through you chest?"

"It was my stomach," Nikola corrects her, because accuracy is important, of course.

"And long enough."

"Who do you want to see in a pit of fiery pain more? Anne Rice, Laurel K Hamilton or Stephanie Meyer?"

Nikola snorts quietly. "I really don't think you can beat vampires who sparkle."

Ashley nods. "When they revolution comes, twilight fans are first against the wall?"

"No, they'll just be the first to be given a demonstration of what real vampires are like."

It's...difficult to tell whether or not he's joking.

Ashley's not sure if he's joking but they are in agreement on this fact at least. tweens and their "teams" are beginning to piss her off.

"Fair enough. SO what's with the pigeons?"

Ashley rolls her eyes. "So I guess that vegetarianism thing didn't work out then, huh?"

Nikola just looks at her for a moment, his fingers stilling on the keys. "What is this? Your one and only chance to ask Nikola Tesla everything you've ever wanted to know?"
