OFA: In the library

Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

"No," Nikola says dryly. "It really isn't."

Will sits up and kisses Nikola's cheek playfully. "Too bad," he winks.

"Either way, I'm not going to serenade you," Nikola says, pushing Will back down again.

"I will endeavour to contain my disappointment," Will jokes, still amused. Sometimes it's actually nice to be the one person who's not a part of history and portrayed on TV.

Nikola reaches over to trail cool fingers over Will's chest. "I'm sure I can make it up to you in other ways."

He would have shivered simply at the thought but Nikola's fingers make it that much better.

He can't help thinking he's simply gotten lucky. Will grins up towards the ceiling. "Bowie's a pale imitation of the original."

"In every way," Nikola agrees, grinning as well.

So nice to have someone appreciate how amazing he is.

"Do you miss public recognition?" Will asks, his mind wandering. "For your inventions, I mean. If you came up with something that went public now, you wouldn't be able to take credit."

Unless he has a way, which Will really wouldn't put past him.

Nikola smirks at the subject change. "I rarely get recognized for my inventions that are already in the public eye. It'd hardly be a change."

"By nature we work in the shadows," Will repeats the thought of Helen's. Silence is better than ridicule, especially for him. "I suppose the public isn't what I'd ideally like to think it is."

He tends to think the best of everything, even the man he's in bed with that everyone seems so concerned about.

Everyone has good reason to be concerned, despite Will's optimism.

"The public is, as a whole, a creature of very little intelligence. And that's being charitable."

"I thought charity stung," Will teases.

"Who said I minded a little stinging?" Nikola teases right back.

"Good point." Will takes a moment to think about it and then gets a little shy. "Do you want me to go so you can sleep?" He's not really good at this but he's really enjoying the pillow talk, even when it's random.

"I'm not likely to sleep one way or the other," Nikola says, shrugging.

Also, Will is warm, and therefore, comfortable.

Taking that as an invitation, Will settles in and stares up at the ornate ceiling. "I think I'd miss that, I'd probably feel like I needed to work more."

"You'd miss sleeping? I haven't noticed it as such a loss."

"I like the quiet," Will offers. Not so much when he had the nightmares, but things have definitely improved lately. "It's relaxing." It's a lame answer. He does think he might miss it.

"There's quiet whether you're sleeping or not," Nikola points out.

"It's quiet in my head," Will says, and then stops. "That sounds a lot crazier than anything I should ever say."

Nikola smiles. "That doesn't actually sound crazy at all."

"Really?" Will rolls onto his side, surprised. "I kind of feel like it's a foolish thing. There's are so many things going on around me. When I sleep, it's quiet."

"I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone around here whose brain ever stops turning without the aid of hard drugs or sleep."

"Occupational hazard of the genius set," he decides, then trails his hand along Nikola's chest. "Super-geniuses as well."

Nikola smirks and lays his hand over Will's. "We do share some similarities."
