OFA: In the library

Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

"It's not that I don't find you attractive dressed, I do, there's just something nice about this." Will runs his fingers down towards Nikola's stomach, then up again.

"And you don't even need to work out."

Nikola shivers slightly under Will's fingers. "I hardly look like I work out," he says.

He's fully aware that he's pale and skinny.

Will does work out, a little, but it's more about trying to stay alive than watching his figure.

"If I liked rippling muscles, I'd be down the hall."

Whatever the reason behind it, Nikola appreciates the results.

He chuckles quietly. "I suppose I was under the impression you weren't here because you found me physically attractive."

"The force of your personality was simply too compelling for me to resist?"

"Something like that," Nikola says dryly. "If it had been merely a case of physical attraction, you likely wouldn't have taken so long to give in."

"I'd say it was complicated," he smiles and feels like an idiot. "I don't know. I was afraid and stupid and not quite sure what I was thinking." He cocks his head.

"Did you have a man or a woman first?"

Nikola smirks at that confession, but he refrains from agreeing with Will about the stupid part.

"A woman," he says, smiling a little at the memory.

Will's hand stops flat on Nikola's chest. "What was she like? Some dilettante who seduced you?"

Nikola chuckles. "Not at all. She was a radical. A Marxist. I met her in Graz at the polytechnic."

"Workers unite," Will quips, feeling Nikola laugh through his fingers. "First man?" This he's quite curious about.

"Much later," Nikola says. "An actor. We met at Oxford, and he used to invite me up to London on the weekends."

"Someone who seduced you?" Will's intrigued by that.

"I suppose you could say that," Nikola agrees. "He was very subtle about it."

At the time, still getting used to new feelings and urges, Nikola had very much thought he was betraying the friendship by wanting more.

"Not something you employ," Will jokes. If Nikola was subtle, it probably would have taken him quite some time to realize his rather confusing attraction.

"What was it like? Something innocent and gentle?"

Nikola laughs a little at that. "Certainly not innocent, and rarely gentle."

At least not once he'd figured out what was happening.

Will raises his eyebrows. "I see." Those thoughts should give him some interesting dreams.

"And now you're on a case by case basis or do you consider yourself bisexual?"

"I think that categorizing sexuality that definitively is never going to be accurate."

"Do you think people will ever be comfortable enough to live without it?"

"Possibly," Nikola says. "Not so long as the human race continues to revere the church as it does."

"More likely to burn crosses than to be burned by them?" Will doesn't have a lot of love for the church. It's never been a part of his life and the psychosis it induces are messy.

"Something like that," Nikola says with a chuckle.

Nikola would possibly have less hatred for the church if it hadn't been such a big part of his life growing up.

Will reaches for Nikola's hand and studies his long fingers with a slight smile. "I do like the music that comes out of it, though I usually ignore the words."

Nikola's fingers weave between Will's. "I have a feeling composers would have produced music just as beautiful without the church's influence."

Maybe better, Will contemplates for a moment. Most of his favourite art is secular, but he has a fondness for the abstract.

"Is there any record of music from the age of the vampires?" Will knows that fingers have an abundance of nerve endings. He's definitely grateful for that at the moment.
