OFA: In the library

Nikola is getting rusty.

But he has a good enough memory that despite the fact that it's been a good twenty years since he sat down at a piano, he's doing a fairly decent job of making his way through Au Claire de la Lune.

He doesn't play well, but he plays with great expression.

He just may not answer all of them.

"Do you outgrow your lovers as they age or do you never stay with anyone long enough to find out?"

Not that Will's looking for an invitation, he's really just wondering.

Nikola chuckles. "Worried already, William?"

Not that he thinks Will's really looking for an invitation, but he can't resist.

"No, no, I get it," he thinks so. "I just. You're always going to be as attractive as you are now and other people...we're moving away from you."

"Very true," Nikola says. "But I can't say I've ever been with someone long enough for it to become an issue."

Either he or the other person has always become fed up with the relationship long before that.

"Have any famous lovers to name drop or is that only something that happens to Magnus?"

Nikola smirks. "Well, I've already told you about Bosie. And there was one particularly memorable evening with Sarah Bernhardt..."

Will rolls over, definitely intrigued. He can't really tell Nikola that this evening tops his famous lovers list by a long shot, but he has a feeling Nikola knows.

"But you would never kiss and tell."

"All of my famous lovers are long since dead," Nikola points out. "It's hardly going to damage their reputations."

"I'd think that having been your lover would add to it," Will taunts, grinning.

Nikola grins right back. "Well, of course. It's not their choice in lovers that had the potential of ruining reputations, it's their sexual proclivities."

"Do you think we're more sexually obsessed now and just more liberal with discussing it? Or are you referring to their pet fantasies?"

"I think society has moved to a much healthier place when it comes to discussing particular kinks or fantasies. There are still those who would say that liking such things makes you perverted in some way, but at least there's a general acceptance that such things exist."

He smiles. "Besides which, admitting to having taken lovers would have ruined the whole celibacy farce."

"Was that more frustrating or amusing?" Nikola's not one for lying, so Will can't help wondering.

"Even ruin someone's reputation? Or stand idly by while they did it to themselves?"

"Amusing for the most part." He's also not one for needing to shout from the rooftops that he's sleeping with someone.

"I watched many lovers ruin their lives, very few their reputations."

"Subtly is also a skill we've lost to the ages?"

"It's a skill most people have to grow into. It just seems to take longer and longer for that to happen."

"Do you miss it? The Victorian age? I know you love the idea of the vampire nation, but wouldn't you miss the technology?"

Nikola is not sure what to answer first. There seem to be conflicting questions there.

"Would I miss current technology if I could go back to the golden age of vampires?"

"Sorry," Will yawns behind his hand and appreciates that Nikola picked one to start out with.

"Yes, I suppose you could invent things you needed but you'd have to start with iron and work your way up, wouldn't you?"

Nikola chuckles. "You've been to Bhalasaam. Did that look like Iron Age technology?"

"Right," Will shakes his head and looks down at Nikola's chest. He's really still impressed by Nikola's naked chest. "Okay, well then, at least in the new age, things will be beautiful and the cities will be better organised."

"Do you miss the Victorian age at all?"

Nikola tracks Will's gaze and smirks to himself.

"Only the fashion," he says.

"I suppose the hats and the jackets were much better," Will thinks, still fairly distracted by the smooth flesh of Nikola's chest.

"And the corsets," Nikola points out, highly amused at Will's perusal of his chest.

"If you're going to look, you might as well touch."
